As of today, the Charlotte Hornets have made Kemba Walker available in trade talks. Lakers trade Julius Randle, Jordan Clarkson, the Bulls' 2018 and the Nugget's 2019 and the Lakers' 2020 second rounders to the Hornets for Kemba Walker and Johnny O'Bryant III.

In the off-season Lakers extend/waive Deng. By adding three years to his deal with no extra money guaranteed, the Lakers would have the ability to stretch Deng's salary over 11 total years, at $3.3 million a season.

The Lakers would now have $65.1 million in cap room in free agency (with a projected $101 million salary cap).

Sign Paul George to $30.3 million max contract.
Sign Demarcus Cousins to $30.3 million max contract.
Sign Tony Allen with the remaining $3 million.
Sign Rajon Rondo with the mid-level exception.
Pick up Ivica Zubac's $1.5 million team option.

Lakers 2018-19 Depth Chart:
Walker - Rondo
Ball - Allen - Hart
George - Kuzma
Ingram - Nance Jr.
Cousins - Zubac

If the Hornets would do that deal yes but the Hornets are asking teams who want Walker to take on a bad contract like Zeller. Also Hornets would have to add a player due to the contracts you are having going out are more than what's coming in. Lakers are not looking to add bad contracts. Hornets are salary dumping.

1. We won't sign Deron Williams. He's garbage and our 2017-18 roster is set. We especially shouldn't sign him next year when he'll be even worse.

2. Melo will only waive his trade clause for Houston and debatably Cleveland. Not to mention giving up Randle and a 1st rounder is too much to get rid of Dengs contract when we can use the stretch provision on him next summer.

3. If we did trade for Melo he'd play the PF and Ingram would start at SF.

4. We already have options lined up to trade Clarkson and not take back salary. We don't need a D-wade sign and trade, because we could still sign him and get a minor asset in return for Clarkson.

5. In your situation, Melo would be opting out to resign for $18 mil less. That's not going to happen, especially when he has a reputation for caring more about money than championships.

6. LeBron has stated that he would take a significant pay cut to play with the entire "banana boat" club. $4 million is hardly a paycut for someone with a billion dollar shoe deal (Durant gave back more than that this summer) .

7. The banana boat idea is not a pipe dream. It's a concept that won't even get us into the finals, will drain our assets for temporary mild success, and prevents us from building a future contender when the Warriors reign ends. Why overpay for 4 veterans that are all older than 34 and near retirement so we won't be able to flip them for assets.

The West is stacked. I don't see how we're a top 10 team in the conference this year.
