If the Spurs feel they're going to lose Kawhi, they might look to trade him. The Lakers have the pieces to acquire Kawhi and still sign two MAX players (if they can attach Deng to the deal). I think this trade works for both teams.

Is this believable? Yes, it could happen. But The chances seem so slim. Also, do we want to give up our future superstar for a player with so much uncertainty? We don't know what's going on behind the scenes and we should be careful throwing our most important piece of the future.

Lakers Offseason (plan for 2018 offseason)
LAL- Brook Lopez
BRK- Jordan Clarkson, & Timofey Mosgov
The Lakers shed the contract of Mosgov, but give up a good young player in Clarkson. Lopez is a FA at the end of the year which gives LA more cap space for 2018. The Nets get a young SG to build around and Mosov to replace Lopez.
LAL- Paul George (re-signs)
IND- D'Angalo Russell, Julius Randle, Luol Deng, & 2020 1st (top 5 protected)
George has been vocal about wanting to be in LA. The Pacers would be silly not to entertain the idea and call the Lakers. I don't think they will get much more than this because the Lakers have the leverage, but Indy should consider it.
The Lakers go into 2018 with only George, Ball, Ingram, Nance, & Zubac under contract. They would be able to offer Lebron and Cousins max (or very close to) deals.

Sign Dwayne Wade to 1 year deal to win one more with LeBron
Sign Ariza, Williams to vet deals to fill out bench.
