Pelinka wants excellence so I guess players like Moz, Deng, Metta will probably not come back!
Metta won't come back for sure.

Rob Pelinka said he wants players with
"character + high basketball knowledge + integrity." Which equates with Pau Gasol.
- Zubac is not ready yet imo. Pau would be a great mentor.
- Lakers sign Pau Gasol for two years.
- Lakers draft Lonzo Anderson Ball
- Lakers trade Deng + Brewer + 28th pick for Melo and Kuzminskas.
- Melo could play a role similar to TJ Leaf at UCLA.
- Nance jr. is a player similar to Draymond, so he can play the 3 specially if he can knock down the three ball consistently.
- Nwaba and TRob resign with the team.
- Lastly, Lakers waive Mozgov

Line up:
Ball/ Clarkson /Ennis
Russell/ Kuzminskas/ Nwaba
Ingram/ Nance jr
Carmelo/ Randle / Robinson
Gasol/ Zubac

I think some of you would be concerned about the defense, however I think Lonzo has all the tools to be a decent defender, Ingram as well, and we can't forget how Luke is able to motivate players on the defensive what he did to Nick Young can happen to Carmelo who has also improved as a passer.

- Lakers win more than 40 games with this line up, make 6th seed in the Playoffs and impress PG13 and other free agents.

Next offseason:

- Lakers sign Paul George
- George is introduced to the starting line up, which have already accumulated a lot of chemistry. Ball and Russell at this point have already formed one of the most promising backcourts in the league. Clarkson and Kuzminskas are torching benches around the league. Randle and Nance have built an unbreakable bond off the bench, I've always thought they could be elite bench players/ occasionally starters.
- the dynamic of the team is very fluid! Lakers are also one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the league.
- - Older Melo comes off the bench playing significant minutes still.
- And of course Zubac will be ready to start!!
- Gasol would be on the last year of his career playing very limited minutes kind of like Metta this year.
- Nance jr. and Randle would be playing the backup 4 and 5 interchangeably.

Line up:
Ball/ Clarkson/ Ennis
Russell/ Kuzminskas/ Nwaba
Ingram/ Carmelo/ Nance jr
George/ Randle / Robinson
Zubac/ Nance jr./ Gasol

I don't see Carmelo accepting a deal to the Lakers unless they sign Chris Paul or Dwayne Wade. The other thing is the Knicks will want a package of Clarkson and Nance. They might take Deng to get rid of Carmelo but it will be expensive to get rid of Clarkson and Deng when Carmelo is on his last leg.

1. Pau Gasol is not going to sign with a rebuilding team, especially after how shitty the Lakers treated him after he helped us win championships.
2. Nwaba is already signed for next year.
3. The Knicks wouldn't do that trade.
4. That team wouldn't come close to 40 wins, yet alone the 6th seed.
5. Melo will never come off the bench in his current contract.
6. Why in the world would the Lakers waive Mozgov this off-season? It's not like that money just disappears of the salary cap, the NBA doesn't work like that.

@eglago
1. Pau was actually considering signing with the Lakers after leaving the Bulls, unfortunately Lakers signed Mozgov instead.
2. ok.
3. Jackson wants to get rid of Melo and not many teams would be willing to give up too much for him, Melo is about to turn 33 years old.
4. In my opinion they could.
5. 34 year old Melo on a Luke Walton team wouldn't mind.
6. Idk, if Lakers can't trade him they might as well waive him,

@Citydude

I heard that before, "Knicks would want Clarkson, " however I think P. Jackson would have limited options, Melo has the last say and he loves LA. Lakers would giving them a great locker room guy and a 1st round pick. I think it would workout alright for the Knicks.

1. Post a link. He constantly said he's going to sign with a contender and his brother publically stated he wanted him to sign with the spurs.
3. The main reason they wouldn't is because they don't want Deng's longterm salary. They'd rather sell tickets and jerseys with Melo than make that trade and jeopardize another years worth of salary cap for a worse player.
4. I respect your opinion and I disagree.
5. Could you imagine Kobe coming off the bench?
6. If you're paying for his services we may as well utilize him, even if it's as a backup. His contract will be very trade able when he's an expiring contract.

@eglago

1. Pau Gasol rumors - https://goo.gl/Bs6ntg

3. Phil doesn't want Melo there, like at all. Since Melo has the last say in whatever happens, I think he would concur to a Laker trade.

4. Just think about the spacing, Lakers would have so many scoring weapons who can defend decently.

5. Melo is not Kobe, besides he would be very productive of the bench playing 25 minutes a night.

6. If Lakers sign Pau and Zubac is the backup or future starter Mozgov would go out of rotation.

1. That report is from a lakers reporter and is contrary to every other report that came out during that time.
3. I agree that Melo would be willing to come to LA, but Phil wouldn't want Deng's longterm contract. On a side note, Melo is on the verge of a divorce as his wife just moved out and wouldn't want to be living away from his kids during these unfortunate events.
4. Ball, Russell, Melo, and Gasol are below average defenders. There's no way that team is better than the Warriors, Spurs, Rockets, Clippers, Jazz, and Thunder, yet alone the Grizzlies and Trailblazers.
5. I agree Melo is not Kobe, but he's still one of the deadliest offensive players in the league. Regardless of minutes played, he's not coming off the bench due to his ego and pride (he's no iguodala) .
6. You still wouldn't waive him if you still have to pay his guarenteed salary. You'd utilize him until a trade opens up. You can still help a team even if you play under 10 mins a game (World Peace helped a lot more than people realized last season)
